There are certain things that come with the changing seasons in Japan: The always appreciated change in women’s fashion. A new seasonal flower coming into bloom. And extraordinarily delicious, limited time only, Starbucks Frappuccinos.

And what would make a Frappuccino even tastier? Sticking a chocolate cake on top of it and drizzling it with matcha sauce, that’s what. (It’s like they read our minds!)

It’s no surprise that slurping down a Matcha Frappuccino has become just one of those things that you have to do when you visit Japan, and of course they’re a favorite for those of us who live here too. But there comes a need to switch things up now and again, and the coffee behemoth from Seattle is always happy to please. According to a press release from Starbucks Japan, there will be two varieties awaiting Starbucks later this month: an almond-flavored Frappuccino topped with a chocolate cake, slathered in matcha syrup, and topped with whipped cream will be the first one up, and they’ll start serving it on June 14. If you’re not a fan of matcha – you’re forgiven – a Coffee Shot will be served from June 23. Either one will set you back ¥620.

But, like the evanescent cherry blossoms, and the brief glimpse that you might catch of a geisha as she makes her way through Kyoto’s storied Gion District, these frozen treats won’t last. You’ll be able to try them out until July 13.

Sweet dreams!
