Founded in 1702, Ozawa Shuzo in Ome is the oldest brewery in Tokyo.
It’s surrounded by lush verdant forests and is close to hiking trails along the Tama River and Mitake Gorge. The brewery has a sake shop, two tofu restaurants, and a barbeque area — making it ideal for a family day out.
There are also two museums nearby, one devoted to Gyokudo Kawai, a master of Nihonga (Japanese-style painting), and one featuring kanzashi (traditional Japanese hair accessories).
Visitors can tour the brewery for free — there is English information available — with free sake tasting at the end as a reward.
