A Dual Birthday Celebration
To celebrate My Melody’s 50th anniversary and Kuromi’s 20th anniversary, Sanrio Puroland and Harmonyland theme parks will have new attractions, entertainment, photo spots, merchandise and food. Here is everything that was announced so far.
Attractions
At Sanrio Puroland, My Melody and Kuromi will be getting new meet-and-greet costumes. The duo will appear in matching birthday outfits, with My Melody in a pink suit and Kuromi in black. The costumes are filled with frills and ribbon detailing, and extra accessories adorning their heads. You’ll be able to meet them at the Character Residence and in various live shows.
On January 18, My Melody’s official birthday, Puroland will host her Birthday Live event. Puroland hosts these exclusive birthday events for a variety of their most popular characters, and these are private attractions that require a Puroland ticket on top of a special event ticket for ¥6500. One participation ticket allows up to two people in total to participate. The Birthday Live will be presented for three days only, on January 18, January 19 and January 25. The show lasts approximately 80 minutes with special appearances from Kuromi and My Sweet Piano. Guests will also receive an original T-shirt and postcard. To purchase Birthday Live tickets, you will need to register for the Lawson WEB membership and use the L-Ticket e-ticket app.
In February to commemorate the release of the My Melody birthday doll, another special event will be hosted at Puroland’s My Melody & Kuromi Shop. Guests will be greeted by My Melody and receive a 50th Anniversary birthday doll and a large Puroland shopper bag. To participate, you will once again need a Puroland ticket on top of a special event ticket for ¥9630. One participation ticket allows up to two people in total to participate. The same even will also be hosted at Harmonyland at the Sanrio Characters Fan Plaza, but at different dates. Please check each website to confirm participation.
Harmonyland will also have new greeting costumes, with the characters switching their signature colors. From January 17 to March 18, guests can high-five My Melody in a black costume and Kuromi in a pink costume at Harmony Village.
Entertainment
A new theme song was created for the anniversary celebration, titled “Matching Pa-Pa-Party!” The song is sung by My Melody and Kuromi and will be playing at Sanrio Puroland.
Melo Melo Birthday Illumination is a new illumination show to commemorate My Melody’s 50th anniversary. The show will last for about 10 minutes and Puro Village will be covered in lights. Guests can purchase a Miracle Light from various gift shops at the park to sync to the show.
Various events are scheduled to be held from September to October for Kuromi as well. Limited illumination shows, birthday doll sales, birthday live shows and more will be announced in the future.
Merchandise
The My Melody Shop on the 4th floor of Sanrio Puroland will reopen on January 17 as the My Melody & Kuromi Shop.
New My Melody and Kuromi goods will be released on January 17. Merchandise includes plushies, acrylic charms, mirrors, pouches, towels and stickers. Due to production reasons, the My Melody & Kuromi Anniversary Party quilt pouch has been changed to January 18.
Anniversary exclusive merchandise will also be released on January 17 at Harmonyland. Merchandise includes keychains, headbands, bags and stationery. Though very similar, the Harmonyland illustrations have slight variations from Puroland’s, with My Melody and Kuromi wearing each other’s signature colors in several products.
Food
The anniversary comes with a new menu. At Puroland, new items include Kuromi’s menchikatsu black curry, the anniversary beef doria and the strawberry and chocolate mochi.
New food at Harmonyland includes strawberry and chocolate mont blanc, churros, peach and grape jelly sodas, anniversary burger sets and pudding a la mode. The Happy Cafe in Whitebirds Square will be rethemed as My Melody and Kuromi’s Cafe Terrace from January 17.
