Celebrating 15 Years of Kumamon
Kumamoto Prefecture’s popular yuru kyara mascot, Kumamon, is celebrating his 15th birthday this year. With the theme of extending the party for his Tokyo friends, Kumamon is bringing Kyushu culture to the big city with performances, special guests, photo opportunities and a gourmet menu with Kumamoto’s local specialties.
The festival will be hosted in Ikebukuro at West Exit Park Global Ring. The celebration will begin with a special performance with Kumamon on stage with special guest Kumaba, a fellow mascot and popular YouTuber with over half a million subscribers. There will be four performance times on both Saturday and Sunday.
Guests will also have the opportunity to take photos with Kumamon at a designated photo spot.
The festival is a great place to try gourmet specialties from Kumamoto Prefecture outside of Kyushu. Tobu Department Store and various restaurants around the festival venue are collaborating for a menu of delicious treats including Kumamoto-style ramen and ikinari dango. At participating restaurants, original “Kuma Toran Tokyo” stickers will be distributed.
