Taiwan has developed a kind of rice particularly for its elders, a demographic which makes up 10.7% of its population of 23 million.
According to researchers, the rice cooks soft and a little sweet, and is suitable for people aged 65 and over.
The Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station has been developing the rice for a decade with elderly consumers in mind. The rice is expected to be introduced to the market next year. Researcher Chang Su-jeng told AFP that the rice “gives a stable a yield and can be stored for a long time”.
