A man suspected of raping an Australian tourist in the resort island of Bali in April was detained by police Monday.
The 30-year-old Indonesian suspect attempted to flee his rented room in the Balinese capital Denpasar but police shot him in the leg and detained him, said local police chief Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan.
He is accused of raping the 28-year-old Australian woman at knife point during a robbery.
According to police, the man intruded into the villa she was renting with her family for a vacation in the popular tourist area of Kuta and forced her to show him where her valuables were and open the safe in her room. When she opened the safe and there was nothing inside, he raped her.
He took three iPads, two mobile phones and 1.5 million rupiah ($154) from the house, reports AFP.
Indonesian police said they are investigating whether there were other people involved in breaking into the villa, but there is only one suspected rapist.
