Taste Dishes From Around the World With Kewpie
Kewpie mayonnaise is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Kewpie was Japan’s first mayonnaise; it launched in March 1925 after the company’s founder Toichiro Nakashima first tried the condiment in the United States and UK. Now the mayo is sold in 79 countries worldwide.
March 1st has been designated as Mayonnaise Day. To celebrate Kewpie mayo, and all of the different countries that use it worldwide, Kewpie is bringing a touring food truck event across Japan.
World Mayo Kitchen presents a variety of Japanese and international dishes that use mayonnaise in creative ways. The event will tour in:
- Tokyo: February 28 – March 2
- Fukuoka: March 29 – March 30
- Nagoya: April 12 – April 13
- Osaka: april 26 – April 27
- Sendai: May 17 – May 18
- Sapporo: May 31 – June 1
- Hiroshima: July 5 – July 6
The event is making its first stop in Tokyo at Roppongi Hills Arena. With seven food trucks, visitors can try 22 different mayo-based dishes such as Singaporean dry laksa, Italian chicken milanese with a basil mayo sauce, Malaysian nasi lemak, Japanese mayo and honey shrimp, French salmon rillettes and Filipino adobo bowls. The full menu can be seen online. All menu items can be ordered for either ¥300 or ¥600. Meal tickets can be purchased at the ticket sales tent.
Visitors can also participate in several activities throughout the event. Complete the trivia quiz to get original Kewpie goods. The stage area will host two workshops: a crafting activity for guests to make a mayo-shaped keychain (designed for children accompanied by an adult) and an easy recipe activity to whip up a Kewpie vegetable dip. Up to 20 people can participate in each workshop session. Participation tickets will be distributed at the front of the stage 30 minutes before each session. The stage will also have presentations by Kewpie employees centered on the company’s centennial anniversary, and an opportunity for guests to take photos with the Kewpie mascot.
