Celebrate 70 Years of Miffy and Friends
Miffy, the adorable rabbit character created in 1955 by Dutch picture book author and graphic designer Dick Bruna, is celebrating her 70th anniversary this year. The Miffy series has produced over 30 picture books, beloved around the world.
Miffy’s 70th anniversary exhibit will be hosted at Matsuya Ginza department store, at the 8th floor event square. With the theme of “more, more, Miffy,” the exhibit showcases over 200 original artworks and sketches, following Miffy’s evolution through the decades and providing insight to Bruna’s artistic process. Original drawings from Miffy Goes To Stay (1988) and Dear Grandma Bunny (1996) will be on display in Japan for the very first time.
To reduce congestion, tickets will be sold with a designated date and time reservation. General tickets are ¥1800 (¥1600 for advance tickets), ¥1300 for high school students (¥1100 advance) and ¥800 for elementary and junior high school students (¥600 advance). Please check the ticket website for more information and time slots.
The exhibit will also have a gift shop with original Miffy goods, including plushies of the 1955 Miffy design, handkerchiefs, pillows, luggage tags, stationery, cookies and more.
During the exhibition period, the MG Cafe on the 8th floor will have a special collaboration café. Menu items include cafe lattes with various Miffy designs, cheesecake and a hamburger plate set. For every order, guests will receive one random original coaster (five designs in total).
Matsuya Ginza will also host a limited time Dick Bruna Table pop-up shop in the basement floor food fair from April 23 to April 28. The pop-up will offer takeout sweets and original goods such as Miffy pudding and Miffy chewy fried gnocchi.
After Tokyo, the exhibition will also tour Kobe, Osaka, Yokohama and Nagoya.
