Join translators Sam Bett and Yuki Tejima for a conversation about translating humor and the varied tasks that literary translators undertake when carrying a text into another language. This event marks the publication of Bett’s translation of The Beggar Student by Osamu Dazai, a novella that explores the comical sorrows of the writing life and the anxieties of living as an artist in Tokyo c. 1940.

Bett will read a passage from his translation, chat with Tejima about his perspective and process and answer questions from the audience. Free admission, no reservation required.
