Bonsai Meets Kaiju at Yoshiaki Komatsu’s Ultra Axis Exhibition
Komatsu Yoshiaki is redefining the traditional Japanese art of bonsai with his innovative exhibition, ULTRA AXIS, held from October 4 to November 1 at Jinny Street Gallery. Known for deconstructing and reassembling objects into new artistic forms, Komatsu draws inspiration from kaiju — Japanese monsters with dramatic features — to create a bold fusion of traditional bonsai and imaginative monstrosity. His new vision emerged from observing the expressive shapes of plant trunks, which he likened to living creatures, sparking his exploration of how natural forms could intertwine with the fantastical world of kaiju.
