This stadium is hallowed ground for Japanese rugby union, and servers as the Japanese headquarters for the sport. Rugby sevens matches are frequently played at the 27,188-seat stadium as well. First built in 1947, it was renamed in honor of Prince Chichibu, a lifelong rugby union fan, after he died in 1953.
