I have left my life as a pilgrim in Santiago as I ventured into the charming town of Porto in northern Portugal. World reknown for its port, this coastal city reminds me of an historical and mini version of San Francisco with undulating streets, street cars, and bridges (albeit little) spanning the river as it flows to the ocean.
After a brief visit, I departed Porto for the southern region of Lisboa. The province of Oeste oozes charm with green hillsides dotted with the terracotta tiled roofs of small villages. Life here gives a mindful whisper “slow down… smell the roses”- a welcome reminder as I depart from the pilgrim trail.
The coastal town of Santa Cruz is breathtaking and I had the pleasure of staying at the most incredible boutique charm hotel Areias do Seixo. This eco-friendly charm hotel is set amongst coastal trees and sand dunes and features 10 exquisite suites- all with a different name and theme. Upon entering my room, the “Tres Desejos” (Three Wishes), I proclaimed I am NEVER leaving (wish #1 used).
The owners are beautiful and commune with guests at a fire circle every evening as the sun sets drinking wine, enjoying song and tapas. A truly magical place to visit- be sure not to miss it when in Portugal.
Peace,
Dani
