I have stayed at many incredible 5-star luxury hotels and resorts during the last month showing me a side of India I have never experience before as a traveler. To be honest, most days I do not feel like I am in India at all within the safe and manicured confines of these resorts.
Awareness of environmental sustainability is virtually non-existent in India, a country where drought is a serious reality and access to safe and clean drinking water is a dream for many. Nevertheless, I have been struck with how this valuable resource is misused every day and opportunities to procure water (eg. rainharvesting) are not realized.
With no formal measures in place, I continue to request that my linens are not changed every day and the A/C is turned off even though I am met with resistance that it is “no trouble”.
